Updated on 6 November 2026 · How we verify
Quick answer: JAMB CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System) is where every valid Nigerian tertiary admission is offered and accepted. Log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng → Check Admission Status → Access my CAPS. If you see Admission Offered, click Accept within four weeks. Only admissions processed on JAMB CAPS are valid.

How to check your admission status on CAPS
- Open efacility.jamb.gov.ng on a laptop or desktop browser (the CAPS page misbehaves on some phones) and log in.
- Click Check Admission Status, select the exam year, enter your registration number and click Access my CAPS.
- Open Admission Status. You will see one of the statuses explained below.
- If an offer is showing, click Accept (or Reject) and confirm.
- Alternatively by SMS: Send your JAMB registration number followed by ACCEPT (or REJECT) to 55019 or 66019 from the registered SIM (keep at least ₦100 airtime). To check status only: Send STATUS (space) exam year to 55019 or 66019.
CAPS statuses explained
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Admission Offered | A school has offered you a course. Accept or reject — do not ignore it. |
| Admission in Progress | Your first choice has started processing; nothing to do yet. |
| Recommended | The school has recommended you; waiting for JAMB approval. |
| Not Admitted | Default status until an offer is made — it is not a rejection. |
| Pending | Data issue (O’Level not uploaded, biometric mismatch). Fix it at a CBT centre. |
Deadlines you must know
- Accept within four weeks of the offer appearing, or it can be withdrawn.
- Institutional deadlines 2026/2027: public universities 31 October 2026; private universities 30 November 2026; polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education 31 December 2026.
- Old offers from 2021–2025: 30 November 2026 (deadline to accept or reject pending 2021–2025 offers; unanswered offers revert to ‘Not Admitted’).
Marketplace and change of course
If your first choice has not admitted you, the JAMB CAPS Marketplace lets institutions with vacancies see your profile and make an offer you can accept on CAPS. You can also do a JAMB change of course/institution to a school that is still admitting.
Why CAPS matters more than the school’s own list
Only admissions processed on JAMB CAPS are valid. From October 2026 JAMB accepts only CAPS-generated admission letters for NYSC mobilisation; letters issued by a school outside CAPS are treated as illegal. A school portal list is only an intention; the CAPS record is the admission.
